Steering wheel removal
I thought this would be an easy task. I have a Momo wheel/hub. Need to remove in order to replace turn signal swtich.
I have removed the nut and washer from the shaft however the wheel will not come off the shaft. The hub moves about 1/16th of an inch. Hub is definately moving on the shaft (shaft is not moving). Seems like it is being retained by something. Any ideas? |

If the nut is off, the wheel will come off. Brace your arms on your knees, pull, hands at 9 and 3, with a slight rocking motion from side to side until it comes. May take a minute or so.

I just installed a Momo on mine a few weeks back. Like they said above. slight rocking back and forth. You may need to push it back down on the shaft and start over.

Wheel removal
Another trick is to put the nut on a couple turns and get a deep socket that will not go over the nut you can hit. If it is to deep in the hub , sue an extention. Try putting a paper towl or rag around it to support it in the wheel hub so you can pull with one hand and tap the socket with a hammer with the other. This has worked almost everytime I could not get it off by the pull and shake method. Good luck.

One thing to remember, when the wheel does come loose, it will come loose all at once... To prevent a bloody nose leave the nut on the shaft with just a couple of turns for a back stop... You might also squirt some penetrant (knock'em loose) between the steering shaft and the hub and leave over night, that can do wonders...
