is this is cool or do i need therapy ??
today, i was removing my rear seats, carpeting, and sound proofing in preparation for the installation of a roll bar. my car is a '73 911 E that was well kept most of its life.
when i was removing the carpets, i found a washer, a rubber grommet, a very small hex head bolts, and even part of a band-aid under the carpet mixed in the glue. every time i find things like this, i wonder who on the assembly line in december '72 dropped the stuff in that phase of construction of my vehicle. does anyone else think about things like this when they are "going where no man's ever gone before" while disassembling their porsche?? |

I'd bet those items weren't dropped on the assembly line. check the POs for the source of those.

Well, I have a 1973 Ducati 750 S.S. (m/c) that has small insects imbedded into the gel coat of the fiberglass fuel tank.
Italian bugs, suspended in time, and just along for the ride!

One of the Boxster owners took his car to the dealer to fix an annoying rattle in the hardtop. Car was returned back with a plastic baggie containing uncooked pasta, which was reportedly found between the top and the headliner.
I find that hard to believe, but.... Someone's lunch? -Boyo

Back about 12 years ago at a former employer in Dallas TX - where I was a newly hired engineer, a Senior Manager owned 2 different Porsche's. He drove a VW Rabbit to work, but from what I could tell, he had a lot of $$ in the Porsches. I believe he avoided talking about them so as not to let on how wealthy he was. (He had been in Real Estate ownership for many years and actually owned several shopping centers.)
Anyway, one day he comes in with a little slip of paper that he shows me. He had dis-assembled the steering column of one of his 911s and found this handwritten slip stuck to it behind the dash. It appeared to be a name and address/city of someone in Germany. He wrote a quick note about owning the car and mailed it to the person. A few weeks go by and he gets a lengthy letter in broken english from this German citizen. Ends up he was a test driver for the factory for many years. Every car he drove he would slip this same information behind the dash. At the time, the TV show "Dallas" was a big hit - especially over in Europe, so he got a kick out of the note sent him by this manager. This guy even offered to put the manager and wife up for a stay in Germany if they ever made a trip.

Was cutting a peice of 19/32nd plywood this past weekend and, while measuring, found (what I though was a knot of some sort)the head of a ball peen hammer in the wood. So I hit it with a hammer to get it to pop out, and realized the entire hammer was sandwiched between the layers of the plywood. You'd think the QA folks would have found it (assuming they have plywood QA folks). Wierd stuff.
