Question Brake Rotors gone after 20K?

I own a 1987 Carrera coupe and I found out from my last scheduled service that my rear brake rotors needed to be replaced. It was pretty close to illuminating the low pad light. I had reminded my wrench that both the rotors and pads were already replaced 20K miles ago when I first bought the car. I haven't driven on the track and am a pretty smooth driver. Currently my wrench has the old rotors and is getting in touch with Zimmerman. The rotors are solid and not slotted or cross-drilled. Anybody have the same experience?

Depends- did you originally have the rotors and pads replaced with Porsche OEM parts? If not, the aftermarket long lasting pads can wear out a rotor in 20k miles. Make sure you use the originals- that way you'll just be replacing the pads, which are much cheaper than rotors!

If you WERE using originals, the only thing I can think of is caliper problems. Maybe they are sticking occasionally causing excessive heat to ruin the rotors and pads. Have your tech. "excersize" each of the calipers during the brake job and do this once a year as a precaution. It is good preventative maintainance and doesn't cost very much when you already have the car in for regular service.
