Moral Support for an old timer
Fellow enthusiasts, I turned 40 today!
I have achieved my dream of owning a Porsche before my 40th. However, my dilemna is more personal..... The rain in Sydney is heavy at the moment, my crime, according to the missus, is spending 10 minutes after I got home, drying off the Porsche. This is normal activity, why should it change on chronilogical sensitive days... (especially mine), far out-what an argument over nothing. Please tell me I am not being over sensitive and share your parners potentially misguided sentiments.

Happy Birthday, and welcome. Don't waste too much time trying to figure this thing out. The fix-all reply is "Yes Dear", and keep on drying and polishing. This is our lot after 40. Enjoy!

The standard line from my wife as I'm walking out the door at 7AM on a sunny Saturday morning is, 'where you going?'. Me: Out for a drive. Her: 'Where are you driving to?' Me: I dunno, I'll know when I get there. Her: shakes her head in amazement.

I too have passed the 40 year mark by a decade and some. When I turned 40 a friend gave me a coffee cup with the inscription..."Turning 40 isn't the end of the world...But you can see it from there". Some friend huh?

Welcome to the club. Just always remember... The older you get,the better you were.
It's easy to understand the Mrs. jealousy though. You might want to consider toweling her off after her next shower. I used to read Playboy when I was young man now it's reading car mags. Like when I was a lad. Eventually I'll be wearing diapers again and slobbering on myself. Bobby

Bobboloo, ROFL - I think you have hit the nail on the head - the jealousy angle makes so much sense. I'll get your suggestion a try - one the wound has healed and I am able to type, I'll give a full report - no pictures though.
Thanks for the wishes guys.

Perhaps this could have been avoided if she was standing at the front door wearing a short teddy and a cheerful "Happy Birthday".
Oops, those dreaded wet spots again, on the car of course!

Happy Birthday! I'm there next year.
my crime, according to the missus, is spending 10 minutes after I got home, drying off the Porsche. At least you don't wash the car while its raining.

Congratulations. I will be there soon too, celebrating my 40th with the ownership of my p-car. To make thing even better, I will take the day off from work and spend it at Willow Springs for my first track experience. I can't image a better way to celebrate... I guess I better make it back home in time for a dinner with the family before the angel of jealousy rears its head (just joking, she's totally fine with it).

That's something that most women will never understand-a man and his car(s). My wife says that I need professional help because I take good care of all my vehicles. Oh well, like a previous post pointed out, just say "yes dear" and keep on polishing.

Happy Birthday & Welcome to the club.
While I did quite own my P-car before my 40th, I was still in the early part of my 40th decade when I did. I follow the path of taking good care of those things I love - which happens to include both my family, my car(s) and my friends. nothing to apologize about!

I've been there man...although not the 40 yr old thing mind you - thank god
Just a chemists perspective though....the reason we dry our cars after we WASH them is to keep the relatively hard tap water from evaporating and leaving behind the minerals that were dissolved in it...the dreaded hard water spots. Rain water is of course is pure water, and (shouldn't) leave spots behind. Sp there's no need to dry after a rain event. In fact, there will be residue laft behind after a drive in the rain, but it will be road grime. It could well be argued that it's best NOT to wipe this off without detergent, sinc eyou risk scratching the finish on your car. There..is tha ANAL-ytical enough for you guys?

Happy Birthday! Don't worry about 40- heck you just finished 40! You are entering your 41st year!
Jasper- you must not live anywhere near a city... ever hear of acid rain? Pollution changes the chemical composition of the once pure rain and will eat into your paint! Best is to spray it off (get rid of the dirt so when you dry it you don't scratch it) and dry it before parking. My wife does think I am nuts when I am hosing my car off in the rain before pulling under shelter to dry it....

yikes - I thought acid rain was one of those things you told children at haloween to scare the bejezuz out of them:
I can just picture it - when the heaven's open up, people start scurrying around, screaming !!! AAAHhhh - it burns !!!! Little hissing sounds as the drops of liquid strikes their exposed skin and hits them in the eyes. After a big downpour, the national guard is dispatched to collect all of the still bubbling corpses from the streets. Up here in Beatiful British Columbia it rains A LOT - luckily none of it is particularily acidic.

Thanks again for the wishes guys. About drying the rain off - I wet the car first too. She really thinks I'm nuts.
Hi Brett, Another NSWelshman, I don't see too many on Pelican. Mate you can have all the rain you want - I heard tonight that there is another week of it. As far as shopping goes. I buy from the local Porshe dealer for genuine prats - usually cheaper than the USA, Pelican for other bits and when I need to go used (rare) aPorshapart in Melbourne. I am also active on ebay mainly for 1/24 scale plastic model kits of 911's and see a few parts on there too. I would not suspect that there are too many Porche's in Mudgee?
