P&rf*rm@nc& Pr*d%cts S%cks!

Wayne - I'm sorry. Really, really, really sorry. I'll never do it again.

I bought parts from those other guys, trying to save some $$$ cause they had a sale. Well, the good news is that I've boxed it all up and shipping it all back, and going to re-order everything from Pelican. Will never stray again!

Got a couple of OEM style heat exchangers...one was badly dented and the other was so gooped in...er, I think it was paint, but it appeared to have been puttied on. Everything, including the exhaust flanges and the screen to the air intake prewarmer was coating in about 1/8" of this grey stuff.

Then the exhaust straps were about 2" different in length from each other, with different types of bolts. I'm sure neither fit.

Say it with me now... I resolve only to buy parts from Pelican Parts in the future!!!

So Wayne, whaddaya say... Little discount on some SSI exchangers? Still wondering where they taught that Danske guy to weld...

Not to mention expensive. I checked them out and tweeks was less on a lot of stuff. I know tweeks is a sister co of mid am., I dealt with them when I had my vette(overpriced with know bbs). I have an order in with pelican myself. I figure if it cost a few bucks more to buy here, I will make it up on all the free use of this bbw. I dont want to give Wayne any ideas, so dont try it, but this would be worth a subsciption fee. But I suppose a couple of bucks on a few parts keeps it free!

I'm a truly cheap SOB, but I buy from Pelican almost exclusively ( I get some of my stuff used) because of the consistant quality and service. It's worth a couple of bucks not to have to worry about or deal with anything less. Of course, like you I had to get burned a couple times to understand

In December when I got my 912 I needed new headlight assembies and Performace had the VW style for $55. The picture shows that they fit, and the ad says they will fit but when I got them, nope they don't fit. I called up and they said, oh you have to drill a hole in your fender! @$%^@?@$? Needless to say I returned them that day. After that it took them a month to give me a refund! Errrr.

Now Pelican on the other hand, I've never had a problem with. Infact, I placed an order today at 1 pm. Its already shipped and should be here tomorrow at noon! Thats service! Thanks Wayne!

I'm torqued at them because I'd sent a couple of emails to them asking about parts, and never got a reply [i]but[i] they felt free to use my email address in their spam campaigns!

OTOH, you must be careful when you pitch all your loyalty to one parts camp though, or you'll get your wallet lightened more than you expect and not even know it. I know because I fell under that spell. Twice now, my shopping efforts have netted me savings of ~50%, and the resultant savings amounted to total of about ~$600. Going back thru my reciepts, I found a few hundred dollars of pissed away money.

Shopping with Pelican vs the other guys is like shopping at my local ACE hardware store vs the hardware megamarts. You may pay a little more (but not always- besides anybody can sell an inferior auto part for less money), but the difference in service is night and day. You really think you save money at the bigger places? Figure out how much you get paid an hour and mulitply that by the time you spend fooling around trying to find/ return items that are not right or you spend dealing with less than knowledgeable staff and see how much you are REALLY spending!

I dunno about that - a while back they had some brand new guy they'd just hired answering the phones, and I had to explain in great detail what I wanted, what it was, had to look up the part #'s even.

You have to shop around - why? To keep vendors on their toes and honest. Have you ever had the experience of buying from some place that was the only game in town?

I'm not saying PP is bad - far from it! But before think carefully before you book the honeymoon suite.

Good luck getting your money back. I returned a part to them three years ago, return receipt requested. I never saw my money again.

AS for Wayne and the gang at PP, true class. Only once did I order a part that for some reason, not PP, the parts didn't fit. I email Wayne and received an email for him and from Tom! Now that is service.

By the way, are there different size valve stems?
