I live abroad. Rebuild it or buy new engine.

Hi guy, what would you do if you were me?
I live in Bangkok and would like to get my 2.2s 180hp, 6311665 and the 901/07 transmission rebuilt.
The engine will be put into the 1967 non S.

1st. plan
To send the fuel pump, the manifold and the transmission to be rebuilt in the State.
Other parts should be easy to obtain from our host and we can do the rest locally.

2nd. plan
Buy a complete restored engine and a 901 transmission from the reputable garage.
I understand the rebuilt 2.2S engine is expensive but not sure by how much.
Any advice?

3rd plan
To send the whole engine (already dis-assembly and well oiled in the box)
to Supertec for a total restoration as a 2.2S factory spec.
This choice, I have to consider adding cost of shipping the engine twice.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Burint

That's a tough call. There are far too many uncertain factors: Your Cyl. head and block.

I live in the Philippines and can appreciate your situation. I have a '88 Carrera.

Plan 2 may be your best economical bet,
Plan 3 if you can afford it.

All I can add to this is Supertec Performance has a fine reputation. I bought my 914-6 engine case from Henry Schmidt and it was all he said it was. So if you went that route, your engine/transaxle would be in excellent hands.
Good luck with your project.

Wink

If that is a numbers matching case, remove #2 from your list- that is to say, don't do number two!- pun intended.
Have the engine rebuilt by a reputable mechanic experienced in rebuilding restoring EARLY porsche engines. Thee are some others here, 3 is the only one that fits the bill on your list. A 2.2S is a valuable car now. I wouldn't risk messing it up, if I were you.
Don't let anyone do #1 or #2 on your classic!

Burint - I can recommend a few very good mechanics here in Australia.

Might be cheaper for shipping?
