Help Identifying this Orange Badge

So what is this badge from? It appears to be a reproduction of some type but the colors are very unique.

Early car badges were orange. A true early badge in this condition would be worth several hundred dollars.

Your badge appears to be a reproduction as it differs from the original in a few ways:
- correct early badges don't have the prominent dimpling on the back
- correct early badges aren't marked with the entire P/N. They have a 901 and an R on the bottom right
- the gold finish on your is a bit too shiny

That being said your badge is really nice piece and in good condition with just a bit of patina. It's still worthy of mounting on one of our cars and will bring a decent price if you sell it.

There have been several posts about reproduction badges over the years.

I read the eBay ad and I would conclude someone created it in their own "shop", using a factory badge as the base, and re-enameled/re-plated it in the combination shown. If you look at the mounting studs, the left one has a partially broken base but the metal plating is uniform, even over the solder that holds the studs. I don't see them advertising this as a Porsche produced piece nor one that was used on any car, only a "collector's item" made from an original Porsche badge. It's worth what you'd be willing to pay.

Unique looking for sure, but I wouldn't call that a "reproduction" as it's not even close to the original orange badge.
