Targa bar color code
 

Hi

I am redoing a targa bar cover and the bodyshop is asking me for a color code number for a 71 black targa bar. Does anyone know what it is? I know that it is a black satin finish but the bodyshop won't just paint it that way.

not sure on the paint code as like you I´d say matt black, probably from Glasurit...you could check their site.
The 71´s originally had polished stainless steel didn´t they. Thought about removing the paint and polishing the Targa Bar?

I would agree that originally the targa bar was stainless steel but it was brushed and not polished. I believe 1974 and up were painted satin black. For originality sake it would be good to return it to the brushed stainless but usually when they have been painted they have been scuffed up. It is very difficult to bring the original brushed finish back and have it look right. You might want to source a good used one from one of the fellow pelicans that might be parting a car out.

This 22 line Glasurit mix worked well for me. I added a little bit more 522-322 flatner to the paint cup before spraying. Sprayed my fuchs and targa bar. You can flatten to your liking by adding the (add extra) 522-322.

You need hardener with 22 line.

EDIT: I don't think you will find a specific paint code.

No, not 'matt' (..matte) black. It is SATIN black. Big difference.

If it helps, Rustoleum 7777 Satin Black is a perfect match.

And it was not '74 and up were black. The stainless bars were standard up to and including the first several years of the SC (78-79 for sure), but most SC's had the optional satin black finish.

There are many middies (74-77) that have had the bars painted black by the owner.

Shoot, my 73.5 had a black bar when I bought it.

I remember reading about the actual part numbers (cans of paint) from Porsche to match the targa top finish. I read it 15 years ago and the article was old when I read it. I still have it in my stash of stuff if you really really need it.

The original top has a texture to the finish. I have no idea how to replicate that.

Thanks everyone, I knew that it was a satin black and either Glasurit or Wurth make a great product but the body shop keeps asking for a paint code Thanks Bob, I will give them your info. I would do it myself if I had access to a decent paint booth, I don't want to do the rattle can trip or paint it in my garage. The last BMW 2002 I painted in my garage was beautiful, smooth, no orange peel, like glass until the truck rolled by and created a small dust storm. need I say more.

If the shop won't mix it just find a Glasurit jobber. I have some (enough for the bar) of the paint left if you get into a bind.

I am trying to locate my paint code on my 1974 Porsche 911 targa? Can anyone help me locate it

Polished = Nice
 

I had my targa bar cover mirror polished to go with the anodized and chromed trim.
