H-4's vs. Euro H-4's??

Hi everyone,

I'm not even sure if there's such a thing, although I've seen it referenced, but I'm trying to find out if there's a difference between H-4's and Euro H-4's. My Euro car has H-4's, and I have something called "city lights" on the first position of the headlight switch. I don't have front parking lights that illuminate like the US cars, but rather my headlights glow very dim. If I were to replace the H-4's, do I just get the standard H-4's that you see advertised all over the place, or do I have to get Euro H-4's to accomodate my set-up?

Thanks!!

Cool

Not sure of what you want in head lights. You have many options. I went for over-kill, including new large feed wires and high current/heat bulb sockets. IMO consider using relays on an upgrade. Dan Stern Lighting at http://lighting.mbz.org provided an excellent education on what's happening in reality and in headlight marketing. I used off-road lens, not DOT.

The H-4's that you see advertized all over the place *are* the Euro's. And yes, they have the little receptacle for the little light bulb inside at the base for your dim running lights.

Those H-4's that fit into the US light set-up are different, and are only about $40 each.

They're called side lights in the UK. In the UK and Europe it's the equivalent to amber US DRLs, all Euro cars have this white light system - older cars have separate white lights. They look better IMHO.

There are two different versions (AND BOTH ARE "EURO") of the Bosch H4 lamp assemblies, and the originals, circa 1973, did NOT have the running lamp provision! Part numbers 911.631.102.00 (and 911.631.102.02 for right-hand drive cars) were the early versions without running lights!

Warren, is that because the "sidelight" is the white light in the indictor housing? Most old UK and Euro cars had their sidelights as a separate light as opposed to part of the headlight. In the UK it used to be the law to drive in built up areas with only the "sidelights" on!
