Source for dual-relay socket
 

I'd like to build my own headlight relay kit that would mimic the nice Sucro kit I used to have in my previous Carrera. I want to use my own ideas of wire sizes and wire insulation colors, etc....so I'm not keen on going with the current West kit available here.

Where can I locate a dual-receptacle relay socket as used by the Sucro kit? Having a hard time finding a quality piece. See pic as a starter-->

pretty well any of the bosch reply pig tail kits can be ganged together to make mulitiple relays to be beside each other. i am not aware of any that allows you to choose your wires.

When I ordered my kit from Daniel Stern, they provided separate relay sockets that hooked together to make a block. The relays were the "ice cube" style ones.

I use two 75 amp relays mounted under front bulkhead lip between jack and battery. You have to search to find them

I've come across the ones that you can stack together...and may indeed go that way. Draco, it seems so far your find is the closest of showing a single "block" that accepts 2x cube relays....will look into all of these.....wonder what the quality is like.

I found these guys ( BR series from Custom Connector Corp)....still need to "stack" them....and they look like a serious industrial-rated supply house. The plastic base even has temp specs and such-->

Does this BR Fig 1 socket come "bare" from these guys, and do you need to insert the female connectors separately?. Notice the warning they give to use only certain terminals that need to purchased separarately. What does this mean?

BTW, I used two dual 87 relays and 'interlocking' relay sockets from Daniel Stern to create my own upgrade. I mounted the relay sockets to a piece of lexan, which I then mounted to the inner fender wall. Let me know if you want a pic; I can post one later if you want. I liked these sockets rather than others because you mount the sockets -- not the relays.

The relay blocks can be configured to accept four- or five-terminal relays, the blocks themselves come empty. The terminals are a little different than regular M/F spade connectors in that their tails (where you crimp) are a little longer and -- more importantly -- they have a little 'barb' to help keep them locked into the relay block once inserted. BTW, the Bosch and Hella relays have 6.3 mm (1/4") blades, so will work with either 1/4" or 3/8" terminal size.

FWIW, I soldered and crimped all connections, and covered the exposed tails w/heat shrink tubing. Looks great, works great.

Great stuff guys...thanks very much. I think I have all the info I need. After reading some of the replies, I may slightly alter my plans. Yes...I like the idea of "mounting" the block and not "mounting" the relays directly, as I did in my original install. So I will not need a dual socket as requested.

My current leaning is this--->

- - Get a Bosch single relay socket that "mounts" to a prefab "wall" of some kind. This design "Stacks" and I can stack 2, 3, 4, whatever number together....good maybe to have some spares, or for the later Cibie hood lights ! ( Bosch socket # 3.334.485.008). The socket-with-tab looks like the Custom Connector Corp BR series I showed before.

Mount to a wall- board out of stiff plastic or aluminum, and attach next to fuse panel like this, maybe using the pre-existing fender screws--->

- - Use a high quality Bosch relay like I used before, silver contacts and rated 50A ( instead of more normal rating of 30A), but you can buy these w/o tabs on the relays ( Bosch # 0.332.019.110 with tab, like my original pic install...or better.... Bosch # 0.332.019.103 without tab).

The Susquehanna 4 unit piece looks interesting but is for "mini" size cube relays....I don't think I can get the stout 50A rating for this size like I can the more normal 50A Bosch size. In a pinch, might also be easier to find the normal size generic "cube" off-the-shelf, if necessary.

I think this store is one of the best stocked shops.

Good stuff.....but the Bosch stuff is more normal size/price with more chance of being re-supplied by normal car parts places in a pinch. The Susquehanna is good stuff no doubt....
