SC Engine Removal Questions

I need some clarifications:

1. The Bentley Manual says to disconnect the two fuel lines from the fuel filter. The 101 Projects book say to disconnect the top connection from the fuel filter and the bottom connection from the fuel acumulator. Which one is correct? It seems like Wayne's book is right and the Bentley is wrong. Also where is the third fuel line behind the engine that needs to be removed?

2. The Bentley manual has you remove the clutch release lever. Is this necessary for an engine drop. It seems like all you need to do is disconnect the clutch cable. Why does the release lever need to be removed?

SC engine drop

Matt, I did a first time engine removal about 2 years ago; I followed Wayne's book as opposed to the Bentley manual. Wayne's book just seemed to provide clearer instructions and better illustrations.
Clutch ? I think the reason they recommend removal of the lever is to prevent damage to it during the removal process. They are also under the assumption that you will not be removing the trans with the engine. Definitely take the trans out with the engine, it is so much easier and provides the opportunity to clean, inspect and change the oil while it is out. Good time to replace the clutch if needed also.
Fuel line ? I believe the line you are looking for is on the drivers side next to an intake and at the back ( towards the firewall ) tucked underneath the heater blower.
I am new at this engine removal process but it went surprisingly smooth - I am sure others who have done it multiple times will weigh in with better advice, but in a nutshell if you follow Wayne's instructions I don't think you can go wrong.
Good luck - DW

FWIW, the factory workshop manual also says to remove the clutch release lever.

Wayne's book details the drop without the transmission. The Bentley details the drop for both together (which is what I'm doing). Most of the steps are the same...except a couple of things.

I was just looking for clarification on which are the correct fuel lines to remove. I'm pretty sure it's the top on the fuel filter and the bottom on the fuel accumulator.

Ok...I'll follow that procedure then. I just wasn't sure why it is required.

fuel lines

Here's a picture showing which lines I removed. They're the ones with the baggies over them. ;)

Matt,

These are the fuel lines you need to disconnect to be able to remove the engine from your car:
1). Delivery line. Fuel line from fuel filter to FD (fuel distributor).
2). Drain (bottom) line of the FA (fuel accumulator).
3). Return line. Make the break at the connection located some where near left rear side of the engine (facing motor). Some model have a T-connection where you do the break.

You don't need to disconnect the clutch release lever if you are not separating the transmission from the engine. However, if you decide later to detach the trans from the motor, disconnecting the clutch release lever would require extra effort to get it off this time compared when the engine was still installed.

here's my thread with questions and photos that may help. Start with post #11
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/577399-need-help-identifying-parts-motor-install.html

the third fuel line you are referring to is the return line that connects to the motor/fuel rail itself in the same vicinity as the other two lines
