I just listened to a 935 and 962...

A few years ago I purchased Nick Mason's book "At The Limit" which for those of you that don't know about it is basically a test drive report about some of the finer cars in his collection. The pictures and stories are unbelievable and the cars are amazing: 935, 962, Bugatti, Jaguar, Ferrari, Maserati, etc...

Anyway, I recently came across the same book which was distributed in the UK and titled "Into The Red" however that version came with a CD attached to the inside cover.

Thinking that it was some type of Pink Floyd song you can imagine my surprise when I popped the CD in and heard the sounds of each of the cars. For someone stuck in the middle of the winter doldrums this was a quick pick-me up. Man did that 935 and 962 sound good! I actually found myself closing my eyes and imagining that I was behind the wheel.

I'd highly recommend either version of the book but especially the one with the CD if you can get it.

Somebody who can encode it in mp3?

A friend of mine in the Silver Sage PCA region sent me a Porsche "Exhaust notes" CD.
It friggin' rocks!
I'll sit in our hooch, listening to the GT-1/GT-2 test session at full blast... my team mates just walk by slowly shaking their heads...

I have recorded 4 sounds onto my computer as MP3 files. You can get them here:

Mikkel: Sorry to not post back sooner but I just logged in today for the first time. No, that is not the CD I was referring to but that one looks pretty promising also. I am going to go listen to the links you posted. Thanks.

Thanks Mikkel for the sounds!

Did anyone else notice in the first link, that the valves on the SC where loose?

Porsche Sounds

Interesting. I don't know about the others, but the 935 sound can be found on the Porsche web site
http://www.us.porsche.com/english/unlimited/soundgallery/default.htm

That's actually the 935/78 "Baby" which had a displacement of approximately 1.4 liters, built to "take on" BMW in the under-2-liter class (1.4 liters, because of the 1.4 multiplier on the displacement for turbo engines).

I love it when the driver stands on it, and just when a mere mortal car would upshift, the 935 winds up for what sounds like another 1000 rpm.

That's right, Porsche "took on" BMW- actually built a different engine, and a special 1600 pound lightweight car with aluminum subframes, super-light bodywork, no front oil coolers, etc., just to mess with Munich. A far cry from the Porsche of today, in my opinion.
