PPI in Hawaii - Big Island
Hi - My father who lives in the big island has found a nice 911SC for sale that he's about to purchase. Can anyone give a recommendation for PPIs on the Big Island of Hawaii?
We found two shops via the internet search - RAGS and European Auto Service and wanted to see if anyone on the board had experience with these shops or could recommend someone to PPI a 911SC. Thanks in advance. Gabe Shiwota |

I don't know how good the Big Island mechanics are, but you can all Porsche of Hawaii as I think their mechanics fly out to service cars there every so often. Is this the car? 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa

Either one one should be fine give them both a call to see if they know the car allready it may be the big island but its a small Porsche community for the older cars.

I have had my 1980 SC targa serviced by Ted Dahike, RAGS in Kona. Really nice guy and did a great job with my very sick P-car awhile back. Seems to have been working on Porsches for a long time. Would certainly take it back to him!! Is the P-car you are looking at a guy in Waimea? If so I stopped to see it and it looked pretty good!

PPI Update- We took the car to European Auto Specialists and had a great experience. Mike has been working on air cooled Porsches for many years and used to be a mechanic in a So Cal race team. He did a great job and found several issues with this car including a missing (not just broken) head stud.
According to the owner of the car we almost purchased, the car was serviced at RAGs for the past several years and had a valve adjustment recently. Therefore I am suspect of their ability to maintain these cars as I would think a missing case stud would have been caught during normal valve adjustments. I am not bagging on RAGs in any way as I cannot confirm if they had knowledge of the broken case stud on this car. However I am very pleased with the level of service and knowledge of Mike at European Auto Specialties. |
