Piwis

Is anyone here using/familiar with PIWIS? I've finally put a PC in the garage and was considering adding the program but it might not be what I was thinking it to be. I was under the impression that it was simply a technical reference containing information for Porsche cars (ugh- and trucks) similar to ALLDATA but an ad I saw today mentioned OBDII cables and system checks.

Someone set me straight here, please.

PIWIS is a hardware and software testing unit from Porsche. It is also rather pricey. Anywhere between 12 and 20K depending on who you ask. There is also a monthly fee in the range of 500 bucks that must be paid for the pleasure of using it (assuming you want Porsche to service it under warranty if it breaks).

There is a software tool called PET which contains parts diagrams and lists for a large number of older Porsche models. There is a guy on the forum that's been passing out the web address where you can find versions of PET and many PDF copies of service manuals. You can get the link from him if you find the thread.

If you want a dignostic tool that is reasonably priced and comes with a cable to connect to your Porsche (assuming you have type with a computer that can be connected to) you can check out the software made by Durametric.

Hope this helps.
