A grand laugh...old parts catalogs, saratoga tops, jackets

I was digging around in a box and found Performance Products catalogs...# 14, 15, and 16. from 1979 to 1981.

OMG...some of the stuff in the catalogs hasn't changed price in 25 years!!!!

but other stuff...ooooh like the silver metallic 25th anniversary porsche jacket for 79.95....you'd be the man if you had one today...I should take a pic of it....

wait.....

that's the stuff right there.

oh yeah...saratoga tops were 849 bucks...

I HAD ONE OF THOSE! I also had a 914 at the time and thought I was quite the stud! God, what a loser, glad those days are behind me.

I think Burt Reynolds bought up all their available stock in those days...

Ryan:

You are correct. Each jacket was used by Reynold's body doubles during spectacular feats of derring-do and stuntwork. Like the Firebirds he drove, each jacket was rendered useless due to fire, explosions, and lipstick. They also had a tendency to burst into flame unexpectedly.

The remnants of these jackets can be purchased on ebay. The rest were used to wrap fish.

I think it went in a yard sale about 1982, due to the fact that I was a L when I got it and an XL when I sold it. BTW, I'm pretty much an XXL now :>

Also had a blue and white nylon jacket, vivid electric blue on back and one side of the front, white on the other side of the front, with black PORSCHE letters across the front, and a vertical racing stripe somewhere on the front. Those were the days for fashion design, huh?

Hey, Wavey, watch the 914 bashing ... Oh, and that blue jacket you had ... check out the cover of the movie "The Usual Suspects" box ... one of the guys is wearing that EXACT jacket.

Also, I think I still have my Quaker State indy pit crew jacket if anyone's interested.

No 914 bashing intended, my friend! It was an "Amber" (lighter yellow-orange) '71 and I was so happy with it, it might as well have been a McLaren, which is what I pretended it was because they were the same color.

I'll check the movie jacket - could you post a pic?

The above link should take you to a photo. Look at the guy on the far left. The photo's color is waaaay off - I swear the jacket is blue in the movie - but I think it's the same jacket. Regardless, it's still nice to know we're being represented in films other than No Man's Land.

Oh, and a 914 is far superior to any and all McLarens

Man, I have to check. It was from their second season ... 1988-1989 ... I THINK. It was the green/white car.

The jacket's not in perfect condition ... but it's definitely a team article with the embroidered logo.
