Leather hide estimate for:
Take the seats out of the equation, but does anyone know a estimate for recovering the dash, door panels, door caps, handles, and lower dash panels for an 85' 911? I searched and came up with yard amounts, but I'm looking for hide estimates? Not yards...

I purchased a hide for some furniture recovering a few years back from Tandy Leather Factory. Cost me about $285. They have a great selection and I found just want I wanted. Looks like there is several locations in Washington.

A typical hide is 36 sq feet. Defects and the shape of the hide make it difficult to get a good yield. Ultraleather is cheaper, looks great and is on a 54" roll

Tandy would be the more expensive route. I've bought 2 hides 2 different times in diff colors for around 100 ea. from the fabric store. Show 'em some kind of trade affiliation.

I had tried fabric stores with out any luck. But you may have better luck in your area. Also, check to see if you have a tanner in your area. It would be cheaper to get it direct.

Well, I guess I misstated. It wasn't a fabric store that seamstresses would go to. It was geared toward upholstery.

Leather
Being in the business, I can say that 1 hide of an average size 40ish square feet should cover the areas you mentioned. You would want to use the best grain and quality for cutting your largest surfaces and highest visibility areas like the door panels and the dash top. Use the remainder and cut your smaller pieces like the armrests, dash lower pads etc. With real leather there is always a lot of scrap pieces left over, hard to use it all. You can also get away with thinner leather for non sitting surfaces, it just doesn't get the wear and tear. Hope this helps.

2x3 is only 6 sq feet. You should be able to cover most, if not all that you want to do with one hide. It is pretty large piece of leather.
