Car and Driver, GT2 and Carrera RS

There is a neat article comparing the new GT2 and the 1973 Carrera RS in the new issue of Car and Driver. They liked the RS's throttle sensitivity and found some understeer in the GT2 that couldn't be remedied as easily with lift as in the RS. They had nothing but praise for the RS [it shouldn't be any other way]. The point of the article was to tell that both cars, although considered wild and tail happy, can actually be quite predictable if you are mindful of what you're doing. In addition the new "wild" GT2 is still not as wild as the old RS. Check it out.

Cool article, indeed...I just received my copy.

Starts off kinda rough though, with old time left-turner Bobby Allison's quote about the 911 "I think they are $12,000 imported Corvairs."

Ouch.

Yeah, Matt,
I vividly remember reading that in 1974 and was quite disappointed with Allison's remark. He based his opinion on a'74 coupe that he bought in order to familarize himself with the IROC/RS cars he was about to compete in. Hopefully he liked that one better, although no comment attributed to Allison on the IROC's performance was recorded to my knowledge.

Can someone please scan this article? We get Car and Driver here in Australia, but we're usually three or four issues behind the U.S. Grrr.

Sorry if some are hard to read, I used a digital camera. Alas, I have no scanner.

Hope it works!

Interesting article; lots of interest in RS's in print lately. RS was quick and fast even by today's standards, GT-2 on other hand is INSANELY fast.

Yes, the RS is being brought out for comparison to everything but the new BMW skateboard lately, and it's all glowing. I'd grouse about the prices going up as a result of all this, but I can't afford one as it is!

I think the RS still looks better. The GT2 looks like a kit car or something next to it - a bunch of bolt-on stuff. IMHO.

Probably should have adjusted that "Price As Tested" figure for the RS.

2 cents.
