Engine oil use
Maybe one of the oil experts can answer this...Why is it that after you change your oil with fresh oil , the engine oil use seems to slow way down? Not just with my 911 but in other sports cars I have owned as well. Is it because of oil breakdown of some sort? Or maybe the last owner did not put in the correct type of oil? Than you, Nick

Nick,
Mainly, thats due to viscosity breakdown (due to heat) during the service life of the oil in the engine. The thinner the oil becomes, the easier it is to get by the rings. |
You might be experiencing some gas contamination in the oil, giving the impression that the high level you see on the stick is ok. After a long spirited drive with the engine up to temp the gas boils off and leaves you with a low oil level.

Nope, oil has been way up for several hundred miles. This also happened in my 99 ford Mustang GT. All of this learning is great fun! Thank you. I love this car! Nick

Per manual on our '85, your baby should be consuming 1qt every 1k miles, check 1000+ miles later :D
