Early 911 rally motif
How many of you like the early 911 rally motif look?
I am interested in converting my 1969 S to the rally look. Where does one get the European rally ID tags/numbers seen in the Monte Carlo rally pictures from the late 60s for example. Are there any replicas available? Are these decals or more like a license plate?

Joe, I think it's a great idea and something different from the usual 'RS' conversions. Lot's of possibilities. Vintage rallying is a pretty big deal in the UK and you can do a search for some of the parts shops. Here's some:

No help on the Vintage Rally look, but the Vintage Le Mans look would be pretty cool. Here are a couple ideas, shamelessly lifted from here:

rally look
Its certainly fun to go after "the look". Once you start drilling holes though its pretty permanent. If you like the look of these Monte Carlo Badges and license plate - I had multiple versions made. I tried them in both metal and vinyl. Drop me an email to discuss.

Great pictures! So many RS conversions.... although I love them .. but I hate to cut/weld up a perfectly good 69S although I am not a purist/concours type either.
My son had gotten Vic Elford's book from a girlfriend and when I took him to the Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock last year, he got it autographed. Vic talked to my son about driving the early 911s for 10 minutes in the middle of the day (what a great guy) and ever since then I have taken a longer look at him in the Monte Carlo rally pictures and the look is growing on me. I am waiting for Speedvision to show some of the Monte Carlo rallys where the 911s were racing. I have suffered through the MGs of the early 60s recently - although I have to say that motorsport sure is different now! I have a pair of the hood-mounted lights and am thinking about a set of the early PORSCHE letterings decals for the rocker panels (GT-RACING.com has them). Also thinking about a pair of blue stripes across the top "a la Chris Streit" although this might be a bit too much if I can find a "Monte" rally tag. PS - Curt, I grew up in Charlotte, Michigan (18 miles SW of Lansing). Moved to Florida in 1970. Tom - Love the Le Mans look as well!

Hey Joe, I'm familiar with Charlotte. I'm sure you've been to Williams Porsche - did you know they're opening a brand new dealership in Okemos this month? That B&W photo was taken in downtown Houghton at the Press on Regardless in 81 or 82. -- Curt
