odd problem tonight

My 930 went nuts on me tonight. The car refused to idle at the set 1000 rpm and instead idled at 3000! On top of that, on the way home, all the lights went dim and the turn signals would'nt work. I don't think the high beams were functioning either. What gives?

additional info: typically this car will, upon startup and regardless of temperature, idle at 3000 then come down to the set 1000 after about two minutes.

Ideas?

I don't have an answer for you but my 78SC has just started to do the same thing.....? ...it will crank over and run high 2k rpms and then start to hunt up and down for a minute and finally settle in at 1k rpm... but I have no idea as to what is wrong. so if some one answers you they may help me at the same time.. although I havn't had the electrical probem's .. maybe it is your alternator starting to go bad... When mine went on me the gauges went nuts and then the all hell broke loose lights went on and off and them she simply died.. just a guess though.

if the alternator were going bad that could account for the dimmed lights right? just thinking out loud here but maybe a device that controls the warm up speed such as the WUR is not recieving the proper voltage due to a bad alternator/weaK battery. Now that I think about it when I went to start the car to leave there was a hesitation .......hmmm....I think I've got a bad alternator.

If the WUR does not recieve the correct voltage it won't be able to properly heat the element inside the housing and ease up on the fuel pressure right?

I'm going to have to do a search on how to check the alternator in these things.

your problem and my problem sound like the same thing but to different degrees.

I'm not sure if a 930 has an AAR, but an electrical problem could prevent the heating element in the AAR from working enough to close the air route around the throttle.
