If the belt jumped or became loose that means there is a possiblty that the valves and pistons became very intimate. (Not a good thing). Normally a belt and roller replacement will cost about 4 to 500 on a 944. They have to make their money back on the very expensive belt adjustment gauge! Remember the belt tension is what keeps the valves adjusted (sorta)! good luck to your buddy. I own a a 944 also and in the earlier models that is one of the "must do" things (belt adjustment/replacement).
