Battery isolation switch

In a street car where have some of you guys mounted a battery isolation switch ? Photos would be good.

Cheers;)

Well, if you mean to kill the car, 84-89, we just pull off the DME relay.

If you mean to work on the car and "isolate the battery", at the negative side battery terminal, a $8-12 dollar part.

DRACO I have an 81 no DME relay on the vehicle, the battery terminal you show is a good idea it really is as you say to" kill" the power when doing elec jobs.
I thought of using a Hella switch with a key but the terminal is simple the key I guess would add an anti theft element.

Thanks for your reply

So will the Negative Battery Terminal device. My buddy turns his baby off all the time. with the fuse it keeps the radio stations, I think?

I use brass marine battery terminals with wing nuts. Cuts down on corrosion.

Unless you have a separate battery backup your radio presets are wiped when the negative is pulled.

I use Ancor marine lead negative with the wing nut disconnect @ $5.50. A rubber cap is also available

West Marine also has tinned copper and gold plated terminals. Marine grade costs a few cents more than auto store parts but it has to be high quality to survive in extreme conditions

i never took apart one of those switches but anytime you have a switch or connector you introduce voltage drop. A switch is more prone to have a higher drop. I can only guess that the switch uses a springed connector instead of having a solid connection by using the wing nut. I drilled a hole in a wing for an easy recovery string as it's easy to drop it into the dark regions.

different strokes... etc

Just wanted to show what you can do with lots of time and little common sense!

Here's what I did with a bit less money:

Sergio, do you have a kill switch on the positive lead or is that a solenoid for something?

Battery cut off switch

On my 912 I mounted the switch in the trunk and the key is above the pedal cluster.
That way I can easy cut off power when I park the car over night during my travels.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299331658.jpg

Something like this is what I had in mind..dont have to open the front when using as anti theft, also as great as they are the relocated batteries into the old aircon evap smugglers box location is not possible on a RHD vehicle, the smugglers box is small only gives access to the steering column connection to the rack.
