Help!!Anyone Rebuilt or replaced electric motor from a front fresh air blower 78 SC?
Gents.... heres the story. Driving my beloved 78SC in december, blowing some hot air up for defrosting, I had the front air blower turned up. So all of a sudden it stopped working, and here comes the electric burning smell.. NOT GOOD! Followed by a nice amount if white smoke coming up through the vents and out the fresh air inlet. Kinda knew right away that the motor had cooked itself. So I pulled the fresh air blower out, and all the coils wrapped around in the motor are melted. So yes.. motor is blown.
The housing however is fine. I pulled the retention clamps of the center but you cant just pull the motor out. In inspecting it more and more, there are round clamps around the housing that allows it to split. So has anyone taken one of these apart? the round wire clamps look weak, as if they wont go back to gether nicely, safety wire will fix that.. so heres the questions 1) can you get that motor out without splitting the housing 2) if I can, can these motors be rebuilt? -my local Porsche buddy Mister M, told me that there is a place that can rebuild these close by. Looking for more guidance. Any help would be appreciated! I will post some pics of the fried motor in a few.. thanks! |

the motor, less fan is available. requires splitting the fan housing and removing the plastic fan, which is the only slightly difficult part. bosch # 0 130 007 002.

The round clips come off easily and are reuseable.
Before trying to remove the fan, clean the shaft up with some emery cloth and oil it. Then suport the fan ( with some pading) and gently hammer the shaft out of the fan.

The best fix for the rear (engine mounted) heater blower motor is to use a better motor than the stock Bosch. If Porsche built the 911 only to the standard of these electrical motors, none of us would own a 911.
So the question here might need to be: what small high quality 12V electric motor can I use to replace the stock front fresh air blower motor. Anyone check the archives? Do a search of posts? I know there has been good discussion about the heater motor, but don't recall seeing it about this one up front. |

usually the brushes melt not the motor. i bought one on ebay to replace mine with a melted brush. But the guy never tested the one i bought as it was also fried in the same manner. i just used the one brush out of the new motor in my old one and loostened up the bushings and its been working fine for 2+ years. Anyways it was only like 20$ shipped on there
