I am still trying to figure out which of the inner O-rings to use with my old style Rauch & Spiegel tubes. Fortunatly I have one more of the old rings to use as a guide but I would love to buy some I KNOW are OK for hot engine oil. I will keep up the search.

Good reference guide for o-rings. Check out the compatibility charts.

Al

Wow, that is everything you could ever want to know about o-rings.

Thanks.

I am still looking for the inner o-rings on my tubes. They are NOT the same as the Porsche OEM tubes. I asked Pelican Parts a direct question about availability and I received this from Darren Bond:

Regretfully, we don't list an inner seal for aftermarket oil return tubes. You may wish to post a note upon the Pelican Parts 911 BBS/Forums area. Perhaps some one there may know where to obtain them.

So I am trying again to find someone with a possible source. The rings I need are about a 1/6 of of inch thick and a diameter of .94 inches. There is a picture of them in the 1st post.

Hi Glen,

The tube you have pictured appears to be a very early R&S tube, originally sold under our old BREMTEK brand name. 16 years ago is about the right time-frame for when we would have made these. And yes, the inner o-rings are still the same as our current R&S production. The reason that our later tubes look different is simple. As the air-cooled Porsche engine got bigger, the amount of space between the heads and cylinders got smaller, so the O.D. of the tube's main body parts had to be reduced. Actually, Wayne's current picture is a little old as well. They now come with the OEM green Viton end seals and we have added "gripper grooves" to give your fingers a better grip when sliding them into position in the engine. The green Viton is a harder durometer (75) than the old red silicone (70), so the green seals are a little harder to push into the spigots of the case and cam towers. Hence, the "gripper grooves" to help with higher installation force required when compressing the seals into their seats.

We use a fairly common o-ring for the inside seals:( As 568a -020). Material: Viton 75 black.
Sounds complicated, but anyone who sells o-rings in your area should know exactly what you're talking about and have them or be able to get them fast. The red end seals in your picture are the old Porsche red silicone 70. Porsche changed these to green Viton 75 a few years ago and once the old red ones became unavailable, we switched too.

The correct p/n for the end seals is 999.707.112.40 available from Pelican.

If you can't find the inner seals locally, send me your address and I'll throw some in the mail to you.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for posting on the Pelican 911 Technical Forum.
Response from Pelican Parts suppliers is a critical part of the ‘loop’ of manufacturer, distributor, customer and more.
Wayne is great at giving his suppliers a ‘heads up’ when a customer has an issue or question.
Thank you for your very informative response.

Please feel free to include links to technical information and your website.

Rauch & Spiegel will be my first choice when I next have the need.

Best,
Grady

Yes, thanks for the response!

I bought my '85 911 in 1995 and the factory return tubes were leaking a little. That was one of the 1st repairs I did on my 911. This spring one of the tubes started leaking. I only had enough of the original o-rings to do the one tube. I figure the rest of them will all start to leak soon. Since I used the old style red rings when I replaced the one tube I will replace that one as well. I have a full set of the outer rings.

I went to a local supplier that has some of the typical black o-rings. We had to measure them and they did not have that size in stock. I will see today if we measured correctly. Fortunately I had one last original un-used o-ring. Without pulling a tube I can't be sure the new rings will be correct, and they will not be the green o-rings. I will send you a PM with my address.

That is excellent customer service to support a part sold 15 years ago!
