I can hear a grinding noise at idle near the fuel pump on my '78 SC. Is this a sign it is going bad? Do these fuel pumps have a mesh sock on them? Maybe that is becoming clogged.
The car runs fine, no fuel starvation. Thanks.

i guess you might call it grinding
there was no mistake it was the fuel pump. It didn't sound like the smooth whirl of a good pump my attitude is if the pump has over 100,000 miles on it it has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel

Well the pump only has about 37k Miles on it. But it was replaced way back in 1989. It might just be old age! It definitely is not a smooth sound. Thanks for the info!
