First gear is tough

I am having a difficult time getting into first gear. It takes a good degree of force. I suspect it should glide in like the other gears, but it doesnt. Any suggestion on how to approach this fix, or troubleshhot.

Hmmm, not sounding good. Try double-cluthing it, or shifting when you are slightly moving. My was acting up like that, then I had to spend big bucks on a tranny rebuild due to a broken synchro. Since the other gears are fine it sounds like the clutch is adjusted ok.

cheers

Try going into second then back into first. My first has been difficult for 18 years. This smooths it right out.

My first gear is extremely tough. Bad synchro. I have to come to a complete stop before I can get it in. But like most of the quirks on these cars, I have gotten used to it and will continue to do so until I find metal chunks underneath.
