What do you think of this? (Yet another thread on exhaust options)

I've never really paid attention to rennlist but decided to take a look today. I found this thread and would like to hear your opinions:

There's one who says that the SSI style exhaust isn't very effective on 3.2s? So how should I read this? Less gain than on SCs but still good...or no good?

Is it really possible to gain some extra hp on a euro spec Carrera 3.2 (no cat) without going for a SSI style setup?

SSI's are a good way to go,yes they do help.Like I said on Rennlist, GHL is the best I have seen.In my opinion, the GHL is better than SSI's... more flexable with their swapable cats.

According to Bruce Anderson SSIs and a sport muffler were only .5 HP better than stock heat exchangers, a bypass pipe and a Performance Products muffler. People will show you the chart from his book showing a 10 HP gain but that's in comparison to a stock set-up.
The latest data indicates that the biggest gain is in the type of muffler you choose. SSIs look nice but that's about it.

911nut - if you do a search of the threads bruce anderson's results were based on a euro premuffler not a bypass pipe.

i'm in the same boat so i gotta get it right in MY head!!!

i have a cat. 3.2 so i'm gonna use a dansk premuffler and dansk 1 in 2 out sport muffler.

the threads indicate the gains come from the premuffler and a sports 2 out muffler.

therefore if i was starting with a euro 3.2 without a cat. i would go for the sports 2 out muffler first. then perhaps a replacement premuffler after that.

the ssi's seem to offer the most gains, but not enough to be worthwhile for me.

Anyone have a source for the euro pre-muffler in the US?
Thanks -

Richardnelson, you are correct. It was a premuffler.
Towen, in addidtion to the Dansk, Fabspeed make a nice stainless premuffler.
I work with a bunch of engine calibraters (including one MIT PhD) who think it's utter nonsense that a premuffler would add HP. They maintain it subtracts from HP. It seems to make sense intuitatively but that's an argument for another thread.
