Buying an 86 911 that sat

Looking for gotchas on buying a 86 Carrera that was practically sitting around for 7yrs and only driven occasionally. What should I look for or expect ?

look for a good shop to do a PPI for you after you give it the basic approvals

look for maintenance maintenance maintenace records

if any paint work like a nose respray, look for quality!

dont be afraid to walk if its a turd....there are others

basics like oil leaks, worn parts and poorly loved leather....is it priavate sale?

If it's only been driven occasionally, the brakes are probably in need of a major overhaul but this depends much on "how occasionally?" and how the car was stored. Obviously crud and old fuel in tank is potentially a problem, so it should be drained and fresh added. The 915 tranny does not shift as quick as a modern one but neither should it grind when you take your time. These cars are very durable when maintained properly and driven "enthusiastically" (if not in a rough, unconnected way), 300,000 miles without major work is not unheard of. The galvanized bodies are great, but are not immune to rust if not stored properly or driven in salty conditions. Good luck

Ask for a local Pelicanite to look it over with you PLUS PPI.

Note everything wrong that you find and price out the fix.

Better that it was driven occasionally than not at all. Cars like that usually have a dead battery and are jump started. This causes undue strain on the alternator. I'd have the charging system checked with a fresh battery installed.

Along with all the fluids and aforementioned brakes.
