WEVO shifter, transmission or clutch problem?

I'm working out all of the bugs in my latest project (1971 911T - Type 4 engine - 1971 911 series transmission). New clutch, resurfaced fly wheel.

The tub came without an engine, shifter or engine. I installed a WEVO shifter on the recommendation of a friend.

My fear is that:

(1) I haven't adjusted the WEVO shifter properly
(2) The transmission may have a first gear fork problem
(3) The transmission may have a reverse gear problem
(4) The clutch isn't adjusted properly
(5) I have engine mount problems

Here are the symptoms:

At rest, when I put the transmission into first gear, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of "gear" there. In my 912/901/factory shifter there's a definite "clunk, you're in gear".

On a flat road and starting out easy, the transmission will sometimes pop out of first gear.

On a flat road and starting out easy and holding the shifter in place the transmission operates properly.

On a slight upward slope and starting out easy and holding the shifter in place the clutch will shudder until you let off and try again.

Once moving all forward gears work flawlessly.

I'm still getting used to the WEVO reverse lockout and operation. It too needs to be held in gear or it will pop out.

Diagnosis appreciated.

Sounds like coupler adjustment problem.

If it has a self-centered spring mechanism, then you have to remove the top in order to get the fine adjustment.

Make SURE the cone screw is tight or all is for naught.

what do you mean by 'remove the top?'

sorry, I was referring to the WEVO shifter. My 915 billet shifter has a spring centered mechanism, which makes fine adjustment of the coupler very difficult.

I had to remove the top of the shifter housing, which contains the centering springs. One spline left or right at the coupler makes a huge difference on the 915 transmission. I sit in the driver's seat, reach back to the coupler with one hand, and move the shift lever with the other.

Don't know if the 901 transmission is a sensitive as the 915.
