G50 Third Gear Diagnosis
My car refused to shift into third without grinding. I expected to find a completely worn out synchro. Unfortunately I can't see much wrong. the 'rough' face of the third gear synchro looks and feels like the fourth gear synchro. And fourth gear work perfectly, so now I am stumped...
Here are some pics of the fourth gear side: ![]() ![]() ![]() Third gear does not look a lot different (to my untrained eye).... ![]() ![]() ![]() Comments? My inclination is to replace the third gear synchro and re-assemble. I can take more pictures if anything above is too fuzzy. |

1990, at least you had the nerve to take your g50 apart, mine is at the shop as we speak. It was popping out of fourth and a little hard to get into 3rd gear but no grinding. The shop called and said all the gears were find and even the syncros appeared fine but they were going to put in a new set of syncros anyway, I am awaiting the out come.

That's my dilema. I am thinking I should just replace the synchro and see what happens.

A bit more digging (not by me) shows that just like a 915 synchro the G50 synchro can also wear:
Third is worn (shiny spots): ![]() ![]() Fourth is not: ![]() |
