whirlling noise

i have a 78sc coupe with the carerra tensioner upgrade installed, along with a K&N filter. compression is good, exaust has no leaks. my question is that above 3500 rpms there is a strange whirlling noise detected. it was pointed out by the mechanic that did the once over on it prior to my purchasing the car. i have been told that it is not a problem by another mechanic, or maybe a belt issue. would the tensioner cause this noise? the car has low miles, about 60k. exaust is stock. any ideas?

I noticed the whirring noise on my 83 after I updated to pressure fed tensioners and new chain guides.

I've only ever had the hydraulic tensioners, but there's a regular symphony of whirring noises coming from the "rear trunk" of my car. I actually named my car Werner because of the noise(s).

But...

Sometimes just after a cold start I'll get a wierd whir followed by a muted thunk....and then nothing until the next cold start. I often wonder what it is...maybe it's the tensioners snapping to or something...

But hey, it's you car, you can have it make any sound that you want.
