Broken Zenith Idle Mixture Screw
I am new to Pelican and I have a shiny new 75 Targa W/ a 2.2T
I am in the process of rebuilding the Zenith 40 Tins. I have broken off the Idle mixture control screws in the body of the carb. Dose any body have any idea how to get the broken piece out? any help will be greatly appreciated. 911 2.2T |
No I had the screw out then sprayed with carb cleaner, then screwed it back in and it broke whare the "O" ring fits on.I can't grab it with any thing but there is some of the screw up mabye an 1/8 above the threads.Inside the hole

Since it was loose at one point, a reverse drill bit may work. Or a small easy out from Sears.
|
I've had the same issue a couple of times before. In my experience the part of the screw that remained in the carb body was not very tightly engaged. The trick to removing was to apply just enough pressure with a small reverse drill to get it to turn, but to avoid putting so much pressure on it that the thread friction works against you. You'll be amazed at how easily the stump turns after you figure out how to grip it.
The hardest part will be to find a replacement screw ... |
I have a couple of zeniths that I have pulled parts from. I am sure I have a couple of those screws.
|
On my way to sears i'll keep you posted.

On a simmilar note, the rebuild kit I bought came with the wrong size "O"ring for the idle mixture screw. Any idea whare to sorce this part?
|
On my way to Sears. also I need the "O"Rings that go with the idle screws "6". The ones that came with the rebuild kit are to big and I don't know Ware to get them? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300034282.jpg

no luck. now just half of the remaining shaft is broken off...
What can be done??? Should I try to drill out the hole? What size? what about the threads??? I need help!!! |
They are made from very hard steel, almost tool grade. You will not have any luck drilling out. A machine shop may.
I recently did this on a set of webers. Not fun. A machine shop ended up drilling out but ruined the threads. I used metal putty to fill in the hole, drilled and tapped it. Worked out good for me. Your results may vary! If you arent comfortable you may want to send out to have somebody do it for you. |
Mcmaster carr sells metric orings. You should be able to match the old ones. I forgot the sizes i used. But look fo the id to be smaller than the shaft groove diameter and the installed diameter to be larger than the hole that it fits into.

Good news. I drilled out the inside of what was left inside and taped a small piece of an allen wrench and got it out...
Every thing looks good inside. I had an extra idle screw to replace the broken one. Now the "O"rings that came with the rebuild kit are to big. Any ideas Ware to get a smaller ones? Thanks everybody for the help. |
