Does anyone recognize this header/megaphone setup?

I just picked up this new to me 1984 911 track car. It came to me with this nice looking header and megaphone setup. Unfortunately it won't pass the noise restrictions at Lime Rock. My first question is if anyone knows who manufactures these headers? They're mounted to a 3.4L engine built by Auto Associates. It looks like the megaphones have a 3 into 1 collector that mate up to the header. I'd like to research what my options are as far as muffling this car. In the next week or so I'll lift the car up and take tube dia measurements. Does anyone know if there's a straight thru muffler that would attach to the collector on the header and reduce the noise enough to pass at LR?
If you have any suggestions I'd like to hear them.

Not the ones I've seen
Buckley Racing headers
He does use a stepped design, hard to see in the pics above, and Burns collectors which is what I think I see.

The big discrepancy is the lack of a reverse cone on the stinger, whick Buckjley seems to use too.

Have you considered the Smart racing Phase-9 mufflers?

Yeap your correct, I was thinking of an earlier configuration he played with.

My response would have been Buckley as well. That muffler you need is going to be a custom install.

Just talked to the original poster and looked this up. I can confirm that these are not the ones we build.

Thanks,
Jim

Or coast/ burns: Ultra Lightweight Racing Mufflers
Or hushpower: Hushpower performance mufflers for racing and improved fuel mileage

Looks like you have room for a few good options...

Thanks for the ideas. I'm looking into all the suggestions and talking to some mfg's. I'll also look into the phase 9's. Tom, I still like the looks of your set-up (rsr rally style with 2 outlets and a 3rd side outlet.) i like the idea of being able to cap the 2 rear outlets when running at lime rock but uncapping it when running at an unmuffled event.

The Hushpower DBX looks interesting. Has anyone used this muffler? I'm guessing it would be easy enough to attach one of these to each header and have it come straight out the back just like the megaphones. I spoke to someone at flowmaster today that thought this might work. Another guy from their special projects division is supposed to call me back tomorrow to discuss further.

Looks like a Burns Stainless collector. I can't help with the rest of it.

Come on by this weekend to take some measurements and have a listen

None of the muffler systems mentioned here will pass with less than about a 102 level. I believe from another post that Lime Rock is much less than 102. For that you'll need an M&K or Phase 10, or just modify a stock muffler.

Not sure I agree with that. The coasts are available in many sizes, you absolutely need a large volume one to get the db down. The hushpower is not straight through, though it looks it. Significantly quieter for the size than straight through mufflers.
It is a very good question what the db limit is and how it's measured...

silver911rdb 03-22-2011 09:14 PM

From what I understand Lime Rock is at 88db from 50 ft away. Tom...thanks for posting pictures of your exhaust. I can't get enough of your car.

Looks like a paragon products setup
