Nearest 89 Carrera 900k away.HELP!!

Hi all, my 89 carrera has had a IROC kit fitted but the center reflector is a mixed match. So l ordered a new reflector and body panel from our host, but from what l've seen there is a rubber flap that sits on top of the reflector which covers the assy but l can't find the part number, and it seems as if the reflector doesn't sit on the body panel correctly. lt looks as if l am missing some parts and there is no 911 within cooee to look at to compare any help/photos would be excellent Cheers Gerry.

Here is my current set up

Thanks Ronin LB seal #4 is definitely what l need but with my IROC rear bumper do l need seal #2 and l am still unsure if the reflector is supposed to go straight on the body panel or if there is something that sits between them, as they don't have corresponding holes that line up.
Cheers Gerry

Here you go ...
This is what a regular 89 Carrera is supposed to look like.
You would most likely need the rubber seal that covers the top of the reflector, although i have no idea how an Iroc bumper fits on an 89 but i'm sure somebody must have one installed on their car !

If you need any more info or pictures, let me know !

Cheers !
Phil

Phil you're a champion!! The picture you have of the reflector on the quad by itself is exactly like the one l have, but the hooks on the bottom of it don't line up with the holes in the body panel l'll take some more photos to show what l mean, also there are no prefabed holes in the top of it to bolt the reflector to...

Well Phil, there is, l was wondering do you have any photos of the body panel when the reflector was off it? As l seem to be missing some clips? or something to connect the reflector to the body panel. l took a picture of mine, a C2 body kit was on it before the PO fitted the IROC kit so for some reason the bodypanel was removed.

This is obviously how it needs to be but what goes between this and the reflector?
Cheers again mate for any help you can give, living in a remote area definitely has it's drawbacks

Gerry,

At first view,it seems like a mounting panel for the earlier type rear reflectors like the 84-86 type.
That is confusing because you have an 89 with a C2 rear reflector assembly and an Iroc bumper ... lol
The reflector you purchased from Pelican will not fit your application as the original 89 Carrera mounting panel has spring clips to hold the reflector in place and the one on your picture seems to be the type that is mounted with studs.
I will take some pics for you tomorrow morning with the reflector removed to give you a better idea of the difference !

Cheers !
Phil

Hi Gerry,

Here are some pics with the reflector removed ... I have a feeling the PO of your car cut out the original reflector mounting assembly for the 89 Carrera to accomodate his bumper mod/installation.Either that or he wanted to install the earlier style reflector with the large black Porsche letters.I did it on my car but i modified the reflector rather than the mounting assembly ...

You can clearly see that there is something missing in your pic. What you will have to do is figure out how to install the mounting assembly you have in your pics which seems to be for an earlier car and you'll need to purchase an earlier style rear reflector which is installed with studs rather than sping clips.

I threw in a pic of the 2 feet of snow we still have on the ground in Montreal ... At least you can drive your car,i still have to wait at least another month ... lol
Hope this helps !

Cheers

Phil

You know what is funny Phil, l have never even seen snow, but when my two boys are old enough we're going to hire a camper van and travel around Canada for a couple of months The youngest is 2 so in about 3yrs we're off Back to my drama, the body panel l brought from pparts has 74-89 written on it so it might be all they sell l've been trying to ring the international ph no but can't get through and my emails haven't been returned. l guess l'll keep trying thanks for all your help and if you don't mind as l'm new to Porsche ownership there's a fair chance l'll annoy you again at some point, l'll let you know how l go anyway, at least l know what the original parts are now THANKS AGAIN MATE

Gerry,

This is the type of reflector you would need to install on your car,it is
an earlier 80's style.
I'm not sure exactly how it mounts but the studs would seem to line up with the holes on your mounting plate !
It's a shame that anybody would hack up a nice original 89 Carrera to make it look like a 964 ...

I've done a lot of things to my car but it's all reversible as i have all the original parts stored in boxes including the OEM 7 and 8 inch Fuchs it came with.
I wish you the best of luck,i'm sure you'll figure out a way to make it fit.

Looking forward to the Aussie GP in two weeks ... i was starting to have F1 withdrawal symptoms ... lol
Should you ever take that trip to Montreal, look me up,i'll arrange to have some Fosters on ice and fire up the barbie for some delicious Montreal hot dogs

Cheers !
Phil

Western Canada & the Rockys during rut in Sept is awesome. Salmon runs with bald eagles and bears feeding on them should also be exotic? I missed #2 because of a late snow melt. Real primitive lake fishing 50-100 miles on dirt roads N of Calgary in June in gorgeous forests is another one. It makes most of US forests look like an artificial Disneyland.
