First Porsche owner here!

Hello, just wanted to say hello. I'm a rookie Porsche owner here. Just picked up a red 1987 911 Targa. It's got a slighly lowered suspension, turbo rear wheels and a super clean interior. I'm planning on doing my own work on it but I'm very nervous. Here is a pic:

welcome... nothing to be nervous about, these cars are designed for people to be able to take care of them... you are in for a good time -

any other fixin' up in the past, got some tools? you are set...be sure to READ FIRST, ASK SECOND, Stop if needed, ask again....read some more....

Nice car. Pick up Wayne's 101 projects book and a Bentley manual if you have a little more cash. Both are great for instructions. Start out with the maintenance jobs and work your way up. Lot's of help here. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the moral support everyone!

I flew the F-16C for about 8 years with the USAF and AFANG. Logged about 1500 hours. Plenty of combat time as well. I stopped a few years ago to be a better father and husband. Working for the airlines and the ANG at the same time was brutal, sometimes 27 days a month. So I gave up the toy and now I'm just a boring airline pilot. But now I have my dream Porsche, so things are looking up!!!

Sorry, to answer your question, the F-16 was a total kick in the pants. The power was unbelievable. When I was new to the jet, after using a practice bombing range in Germany we were asked to buzz the Army barracks, naturally we oblidged. I was doing 500 Knots at 300 feet above the ground when I lit the afterburner for the flyover. When the burner kicked in, it litereally threw my feet off the rudder pedals and startled the hell out of me, the thrust was unreal!

I miss that bird!

that car is going to cost you so much money ...

recommend getting another account and spending out of it so wife doesn't find out ....

When i look at what I spend .... Be careful of the "while your in there" ...

They sneak up on you ... Very nice Targa ... Congrats ...

Now drive and enjoy ......... as the others said DON'T BE SCARED... read up and ask questions and it'll be OK .........

Great choice in cars and body type, I assume she's still in bed for the winter....if you're like me, you're counting the days. The coupe guys don't know what they're missing in open air (no concerns about the underwhelming Porsche ventilation system) with the full Porsche symphony blasting. Good luck

Which years weren't and for what reason?

I'm sure I read all that in the 70s and 80s, but I can't remember.

Is there a page somewhere discussing the pros and cons of each?
