Clunk noise
I've been looking at posts that identify a clunk noise while driving. I have a stock '82 SC. While I'm driving I can hear the clunk noise seemingly coming from the front wheels or shocks. I've taken the front bearings out and greased them, then tightened them according to spec. They looked perfect. I also just had the car on jack stands and pulled/jerked up and down, back and forth on the wheel, but I couldn't get any movement or noise. Is there something inside the shock that could be loose? How do I check it? Any pics would be great!

What front struts do you have?
|
Inserts coming out of the struts?
good for a clunk. Bruce |
roll bar bushings or mountings?
|
If front, raise the car remove the suspect side and grab the strut, pull back and forth, if loose the strut nut if applicable needs to be tightened or the top strut nut. I would check both sides for movement.

+1 on roll bar bushings or mountings...
|
I had the similar issue, It was the spindle on the strut. Had to replace strut.
Hope this helps, |
Maybe the rubber for the torsion bar mounts have had their days. Being an 82....

It seems that it could be the:
- Torsion bar - Sway bar - Strut I need to do more investigation. |
I, too, am hearing a NEW similar sound from my right side,..but only when I apply brakes...will be looking this weekend....
