Where is a 1981 Porsche 911 engine number

I understood that the Porsche 911 engine number was on the right hand fan housing support as shown in the image on a previous post:



However, I have no serial number in this location. The engine is in my 1981 Porsche 911 targa and should have a serial number 6311130. Does anyone have any ideas where I could find it? Thanks.

Try looking on the vertical fin that faces the passenger fender, 90 degrees from the location in your pic....use a BRIGHT light.
