I have a 1979 930 that has been garaged for 20 years. Aside from cleaning the fuel tank, replacing the fuel filter and pump, what other steps should be taken?
Any suggestions as to how to clean fuel line without replacing it? With 44k miles, this guards red 930 is in excellient condition. Do you know how many 930's were imorted into the U.S. ? __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: 911 Engine Removal Made Easy |

Yes, I would change the oil, drain the tank, clean and check all of the lines, and replace the filter and the pump. I would also change out the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Don't forget the fan belt too. Tires need to be replaced prior to driving, and you'll probably need some work on the A/C.

in additional to the above, I would pay attention to fuel lines if not replace.

it's also a good idea to spray some kroil or marvel oil into the cylinders with the plugs out and then rotate the engine to make sure it's not seized.

Sitting for 20 years - all four brake calipers are probably seized in their bores. And any rubber flex-lines need to be replaced as they will have swollen or degraded.
DO NOT attempt to drive that car until you have fully confirmed its ability to STOP!

Surprised nobody mentioned it.. we see posts here quite often in a panic about starting a p car after sitting.. I think 9x out of 10 it will smoke badly... this is normal.. apparently oil drains into the headers somehow.. past the rings? So do not have a fit when you see it.. my 76 sat for 2 years and it took several hours to stop.. will look like a mosquito fogger... You may need a spirited run or two to clean it out completely...
And yeah brakes are stuck I bet... if they are not stuck you still need to replace all fluids. Gosh I hope she is ok.

Original Porsche 911 by P Morgan shows 1200 1979 US 930's were built.

Aren't there two fuel pumps?
I used Seafoam in the gas to free up the CIS components. Oil change filter, fuel filter, trans oil change. Gauges to adjust fuel pressure. After running 20 minutes with Seafoam, I changed oil again. I used cheap straight 30w for the start up.
