PPI Question

If a car is currently maintained by a reputable, well-known shop, do you get a PPI there or somewhere else? Or, is it even necessary?

I think a shop should be objective and not favor the customer or a prospective buyer. Of course, that's in a perfect world.

The fact that there are records on the car is a plus. The seller should authorize those records to be reviewed if he doesn't have his own copies.

I just had a car inspected by the same shop that did most of the work on it. He was objective, I bought the car and had him do the recommended work after the purchase. The seller ended up paying about 2/3rds of the bill due to negotiation on the purchase price.

I don't see how it could have been any better than that. YMMV.

If there is a good shop in the area don't hesitate and go there. It's called conflict of interest and even though the shop my not intentionally overlook something it's in everyone best interest to get a third party to look at car. If the shop that is looking after the car wants the seller as a customer they may not be a critical as someone without an interest.

Your in Seattle area, so your not far from some very reputable shops. take good advise and use them...it worth the money.

Just my 2 cents
