caliper pistons don't go in without a fight
I'm rebuilding my brake calipers. The calipers have been disassembled and cleaned up, and now I'm struggling with getting the pistons back in. The 101 projects book and some tech articles I've ready say that they should just slide right in...not in my case. They go in easy as far as the inner seal, but really don't want to go any further. I've had to struggle, curse and scream, and after 2 calipers my thumbs are sore from trying to push them in. Eventually they pop in, but is it supposed to be this hard? One of them only went in with the careful aid of a C clamp and a block of wood. I'm using brake fluid as the lube, since the guys at Autozone and O'Reilly's have never even heard of caliper assembly lube, much less carry it in the store. Comments?

They do fit tighter than other calipers. The block of wood and a clamp works well as long as you keep the pistons in line with the bore. Pre aligning the notch helps also. For your tribute RS do you have a set of turbo brakes?

+1 on they go in tough, you are compressing a lot of sealing surface area...

OK, next question...what's the trick to getting the dust seals on the rear ones? The fronts were easy, but the rears have an integrated metal ring that is a biotch. I haven't been able to get even one of them on yet.
