Need help installing Heigo roll bar

Hi

Anyone out there with a Heigo rollbar (half cage) installed in their 3,2?

I'm trying to install the Heigo bolt in roll bar, but I cannot seem to get it lined up properly (http://www.heigo.de/ASP/index.asp?PID=&ACT=102&WKA=935&WKC=1&CAT=3&SCAT=Po rsche).

The parts that are giving trouble are the support braces connecting to the outer lap belt bolts. It almost seems as if they are a little too short and the angle is a little off.

I would appreciate if someone could measure the length of the inner braces (going to the center lap belt bolt). That way I would at least know if the angle of the hoop is correct.

Anyone else having problems installing this?

/Johan

If everything else is loose and they don't come close, it's likely a quality control issue. Have you called the manufacturer?

If you have tightened any of the bolts, loosen them and try to install the bolts. Tighten opposite sides gradually.

Thanks Joe Bob

Calling Heigo will be the next step. I'm surprised how little info they have online regarding installation. Some guiding measurements would've been nice.

"Assuming" they have good quality control, the put in all the bolts and nuts and tighten side to side is a no brainer instruction.

IF ANYTHING is off and you can't get it to seat right, you've wasted your time/money and the supplier needs to fix it.

Hope it works out.

Hi, H viken:

I have the same Heigo rollbar on my '89 Carrera.
My experience, the most challenging part is to install the center loop.
You need to push real hard toward the back seat direction in order to
tight that screw.

Photo below is my install order suggestion, otherwise you might run
into one side has no space between rollbar and seat belt top cover,
and the other side has plenty. Take some time to adjust each bar after
center loop screws are tighten. Good Luck:)

Thanks Wei2go!

Could you please do me a favor and take three measurements for me?

1. From the bottom of the rollbar (your #1) up to the "ear" where you attach your #3?

2. The length of the outer strut (your #3), not including the extension?

3. The distance from the "ear" to the outer lap belt mount?

Hi guys

I'm thinking to install one as well. Gives some more protection on trackday's .

I also use the car regularly on the road, and of coarse to and from the track.

If the diagonal is removed, would it still be possible to use the back seats? My 8 year old son likes to join me as much as possible.

To protect him, the remaining bars can be padded...

The other possibility is to install and remove for every tracksday...is this realistic?

Thx,

André

dede911, I believe the consensus is that no one should be in a car with a roll cage without a helmet, even if it is padded, especially children. Put the kid in the front seat once he is big enough, and then get a roll cage for the back, where no one can contact it. Imagine taking a piece of roll bar, padding it, and hitting your kid over the head with it. That is what can happen in an accident, even if it is padded.

Figured I'd provide an update. Heigo had screwed up and the struts were too short. After A LOT of correspondence they sent me new struts and the cage is now where it belongs, in my car.

Glad it worked out.....way different design than mine. But mine was a one piece custom fabrication and is in a cabriolet.
