Auxiliary air regulator ( AAR ) inquiry.

My 1987 930 is currently suffering from cold running issues. I'm in the process of checking the common items, vacuum leaks, fuel pressures and ignition items.

I've found that my AAR is not moving from the position shown in the photo.

I used a screwdriver to push the window opening of the AAR and it does move and I can feel the spring resisting movement inside the AAR.

I am wondering if anyone has a photo of how far he AAR opens when dead cold on an 1987 930? Does my photo reflect the OPEN position? Also, how far does the opening CLOSE when the AAR is HOT? I assume that it closes fully to prevent almost all air flow from the inter-cooler.

Please confirm for me and add photos for all to see.

I plan to check the following tomorrow:
1) Measure resistance across the terminals of the AAR. I've seen documentation on this board that it should be approximately 35 ohms.
2) Try to blow through the AAR and see if the photo is actually showing the CLOSED position.
3) Apply 12 VDC to the AAR to see if I can get the window to CLOSE.

I found a thread on how rebuild the heating element of the AAR. Has anyone does this lately? Does anyone have a source for the resistance wire for the heating element located inside the AAR?

That looks plenty open.

For test two I would just get down there and blow on it if your face can fit. Close the garage door for modesty reasons. :-)

I bet it's not the problem as it's open during cold running.

Take it off an put it in the freezer to check full mechanical opening.

Other tests are ok for testing functionality.

Mysteriously my AAR works today. I must not have been waiting long enough for it to close. Many posts on this forum say that the AAR will close under voltage after 3-5 minutes. This duration may be longer based on what I've seen with my AAR.

My AAR does seem to fully close and the resistance of my factory installed AAR (across the leads) is 20.7 ohms (see photo, not totally closed in the photo, but close):

This sounds a bit low as well based on comments within other threads on this forum. I will continue to keep an eye on this component. I believe I still have a vacuum leak or fuel pressure issue. I'll be diving into these issue tomorrow evening.
