Need help with RS carpet set installation
I got an RS carpet kit to put in my targa, but it came with no instructions, diagrams, or labelling of any sort. I've searched Pelican and the internet as a whole and can't find rs carpet installation instructions, specifically for a targa, anywhere. Anyone here installed an RS carpet set in their targa, and if so, what did you use as a guide? Thanks.

A silly question: Is your user name hotwaterrmusic because you're a fan of Hank Bukowski ? |
Pull any carpet pieces you have, lay the new set out on the ground. It's fairly clear how everything fits. The only other thing you need is some 3M spray adhesive.

there is a bit of a difference between th 911 & 964/993 versions
but here is my 964/993 version laid out on the floor http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300726385.jpg basicly there are 2 side pieces that go in first(unless you are doing the whole car in which case the sills go first as they go over the wheel hump)), then the center hump, then the hump yoke then the rear & deck piece. It looks best w/ sliverknit to to roll the visible edges that aren't bound the 911 is cut differently, I don't have pics but on these you start w/ the small hump piece, then the tunnel, then the sills(again depends on if you are doing the whole car or the rear only), then the rear sides, then the hump yoke, then the H piece that covers the seat bottom & front, then the rear & deck piece |

i started with the door sill piece, then the kick panel, then worked my way back. you can see pics along the way here:

before you glue any piece down put the surrounding pieces in place to see what overlaps what and where it needs to be glued. this is how i did it.
start with the door sill pieces but only glue them in the middle as they overlap the kick panel and rear quarter pieces. then glue in the kick panels. next the rear quarter piece. repeat on the other side of the car. next is the single piece that goes over the hump between the rear seats. this piece needs to be centered as all the other rear seat pieces overlap it. after that i attached the piece that goes at the top of the rear seat area but below the rear seat backs. last the piece that goes where your heels would hit if you were sitting in the back seat. finally the tunnel pieces can go on but they are not glued down. they need to be able to be removed for future work. i put it in place and then used sliding wood clamps to hold it in place and form the bends over the tunnel. oh ya, forgot about the door pockets but that is pretty straight forward. that should be it. if you need more help refer to my thread above or pm me. be certain to clean off all the old glue residue before you attach the new carpet. i posted some cleaner in my thread that worked excellent (and smelled like a creamsicle!). |
