Post Bosch distributors

I have a '69 912 with a 009 Bosch. I think it has a problem with the advance, since it doesn't seem to change the timing very much (<5 deg) when at 3000 rpm. Any ideas on what I should replace it would?

Thanks

Just buy a new one. I know that sounds cheesy, but they only run about $69-75. That's cheap money in the Porsche world. I bought one not too long ago for my brothers VW for his birthday, and we converted it, so it no longer needs points. Helped with all his spark problems.

Best advice, throw away the 009 and buy yourself a new 050. I just did this myself and the advance curve is much greater. They aren't expensive. The 009 was an industrial design, for like tractors and stuff methinks, with very limited advance.

The car came to me with the 009 having replaced the OE one when the FI was taken off my 912E. Had i known it wasn't replaced with a proper distributor, I would have ditched it a long time ago.

Now, the car revs a lot faster, the idle is more stable and there seems to be more available "pop" at the higher revs.

Evidently, one can modify the advance of the 009 if it has the screw under the felt cover (later ones). It it's an original German build one, with the clip retainer, I've heard this is damned near impossible to remove.

I would definately do this if I were you.

Dave

Hello

Hell!! 009 from the beetle are 356 engine killers and they suck power.
Its nice to beef up a beetle engine but will gain no benefits on 356 except for the sved money.

009 on the type 4 is a missinvestment. The D-Jetronic works very well with carbs and to set the vacuum is a simple task.

Grüsse
