Weltmeister sway bar heim joint too small?

Hi all,

I got a good deal on some Weltmeister sway bars (22 f&r).

Came with all the brackets and some additionals.

Anyways, the rear adjustable drop-links heim joint holes are too small (~6 or 8 mm) for my factory trailing arm to torsion bar bolts (~10mm).

I looked at Pelican Parts Welmeister sway bars, and they look exactly like what I got... too small holes.

I was thinking of getting an adapter from 10mm bolt to 8mm nut. Or change the Heim joint out.

Suggestions?

TIA

I found this from Sherwood...

"I think the WM drop link connection to the spring plate is not as desireable compared to the factory location on the control arm. WM uses a relatively puny 5/16" allen head bolt to attach the low cost heim bearing (3/8" ID) to the spring plate eccentric, and this is the main criticism although I haven't heard of any failures because of this. If you notice, the factory sway bar mount bolt is quite large and a matching heim bearing will have much higher load capacity (and thus cost). WM chose to use a bent bar with their relatively inexpensive heim bearings versus the more expensive alternatives which have individual arms and heavier hardware.

The new SmartProducts rear sway bar also appears to mount to the spring plate. Not sure about its robustness, but it looks very nice in regards to their individual arms, hardware and drop link geometry.
"

Can someone post or send me pictures of their setup with Weltmeister bars?

TIA

Damn,

Apparently I am missing " the WM eccentric mounting bolt that replaces the factory-installed eccentric. The Weltmeister piece has a 5/16" female thread. The upper sway bar link attaches to this via a 5/16" allen head bolt that goes through the upper rod bearing then threads into this opening. You'll notice the spherical bearing has a 3/8" I.D. WM supplies spacer collars that allow the smaller dia. bolt to fit into the bearing"

Anyone know where I can get this?

- Took care of that good deal I got....

TIA

Hi Nick,
A call to Performance Products (who bought out Automotion, who owned the Weltmeister brand) should yield a source for replacement parts. Not many Weltmeister dealers carry replacement parts. The eccentric piece costs something like $25.

Nick, here is the bolts you need. They replace one of the eccentric nuts for alignment in the rear spring plate. You can have these if you want them. If you notice the picture, you will see one of the bolts is sheared off. This may give you some indication of the bolts. Granted, I did do these on the track when running big sticky tires. This happened twice and then I switched to the SmartRacing setup which is shown in another pic. It uses a treaded aluminum support to replace the entire bolt. Why they don't use the factory mount is a question no one seems to answer. One theory is that is farther back then where the eccentric bolts mount, thus giving a longer lever arm and less resistance.

The famous Charlie Bar sway bars attach to the factory drop link location on the control arm (top right of the rod bearing link in 89911's pic). This uses a substantially larger diameter mount bolt. It doesn't seem but a slight stretch to mount it at this location rather than using a small diameter fastener at the spring plate. Even Smart Product's drop link attachment bolt looks to be on the slim side. Does anybody know the bolt dimension?

Widebody - Well... I haven't gotten them in yet...

I figure when the opportunity presents itself (read cheap), I will put in the torsion bars.

I think the best thing for me to do will be to start replacing my HEAVY OEM sport seats. Stripping the interior and AC no spare... fiberglass front and rear bumpers... AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHhhhhhh
