alternator question

hey everyone, just about to change my alt on my 85 911. when i pulled out the old one, the extension that is mounted on the alt in the fan shroud is broken. my question is, is this a vital cooling part, can i run the car with the fins broken and bent. your help is greatly appreciated. tony

That shroud directs the air over the cylinders to cool hot spots it is absolutely necessary to have it installed and in good shape.. I would try to acquire one on the Pelican classifieds.

There is a pelican member parting out a 3.0 engine on the first page of the classifieds he might have one for you. You may have to make sure it will fit a 3.2.

+1 This is a must have part. The purpose of that part is to distribute air from the fan over all the cylinders evenly. A hot cylinder could be catastrophic.

Here is one on flea bay. I would be from a pelican first, but this can be an alternate.
