Awwww Man, Rookie mistake...

I decide to change the manual transmission fluid this morning. Everything goes smooth as silk, a rare occurrence, however it only takes two quarts to fill a three quart system. The problem i'm thinking is that I jacked up the rear of the car to drain the fluid and must have left a quart in there because of the slope. I'm guessing the trick is to drain it while the car is flat? Back out I go...

What I do is raise the rear of the car and rest it on two jack stands. (not high, Just a bit so the wheels are just off the ground)
Then raise the front of the car with the floor jack located centrally. SEE BELOW. Think see saw.

I use a spirit level on the door sills to check when the car is level.

Then I drain and refill the gearbox oil. Easy Peasy...

I have a strengthening bar installed that runs across the the tank support between the suspension pick up points.
If you try this without the strengthening bar you'll probably dent the tank support in this area.
Also to clear my front spoiler I made an extension for my floor jack pad so that it hits the strengthening bar before touching the spoiler.
'

EDIT: For safety... I do actually put two jack stands under the front once I have the car level.

Is is a 'Certified Porsche Titanium Level' with degrees in 1000ths? Ha

Yep has to be level.

What did you put in the gearbox?

I like to get two jack stands in the front as well. Just solidifies the setup.

I do actually put two jack stands in the front once I have the car level. I'll edit my post.

I actually use an 8 inch Starrett Machinists Spirit level because it's a convenient size. It's also very accurate.

Depends on the height of your car, but it can get tricky. Mine is so low that if I jack the rear first, I will never get a jack under the front.

I raise the front, put it on stands, Then raise the rear to level.
Lowering is the opposite. Rear first, then front.
