Replacing 225/50's with 245/45's??

Found a cheap set of tires, brand new, that have 245/45's instead of the standard 225/50's that are on there now. According to tire rack I should not have any issues. Anybody ever used this size? What did/do you think?

What size rear wheels are you running. I pretty sure 245's are to big for 7" wheels. But if you have 8 or 9" wheels, I know they will fit. Also depends on if your car is lowered or not.

Mine fit in the rear no problem. My fender lips are at 24 1/2" at the rear!

What is stock? 7" in front and 8" in the rear?

For 16" wheels stock is either 6F, 7R or 6F, 8R ('89 only).

Here's how I'd run the logic. Please tell me if this is right.

The current 225/50 is 225mm wide and sidewall is 112.5 mm tall. the 245/45 is 20mm wider at the tread (about 3/4"), but is 110.25mm tall (about 1/10" shorter). There should not be a significant effect on the speedometer accuracy as rolling circumference is not meaningfully different. So the only question is whether your wheel is wide enough to support the tread width. 245mm is about 9 5/8" wide. 8" or 9" wheel is OK, a 7" wheel would be too small with 1 5/16" overhang front and rear of the rim at the tread.

Close?
