Is There an Alignment Shop in Central Indiana?
I am in need of an alignment shop in Central Indiana. The 993 has drifted out of alignment over the past four years or so.
Any thoughts? The local specialty shop suggested the Stealership in Indy. They do not have a jig for four wheel and did not have a tool they need to adjust the suspension. I have not asked the Subaru/VW/Audi/nissan dealer in Bloomington and really did not want to, but could. Thank you!

Alignment
Sears Automotive Columbus just aligned my Jeep Compass all 4 wheels $75 flat rate for everything. They have a sharp young guy that seems sharp. We also have a Bear alignment shop that has been good in the past. Let me know if you use one of them as my SC should be ready to drive by May.

2661 West Schmaltz Blvd Bloomington, IN 47403 (812) 339-9261 However, he said they do not see enough Porsches so he did not have a "special tool" needed to adjust our 993 with an S suspension. I do not know if that is smelly or not but it sure seems so. They were recommended for specialty cars in this area. Do not know if they do SCs or not. We have not done an alignment on our SC since about '97. Of course, it does not get enough miles as it is. The 993 is a daily driver.

I have taken my 911 SC to Harris Tire and Auto several times: Harris Tire and Auto | Tires and More | Indianapolis, IN They're in the Broad Ripple area. They have always treated me very well and are pretty cheap (~$100). I always get a printout of the final measurements when they're done.
If they don't have the tool you mention that's needed for the 993, Euro Motorworks will be able to do it: Indianapolis Auto Repair for Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, Volvo, Saab :: Euro Motorworks They are around 96th and I69 on NE side of Indy. They are very good, but a little pricey. Good luck!

There is also Farmer's in Eastern Indy...
Seems as though roads are pointing to Precision Alignment Two strong "professional" recommendations from shops. Gentleman at Farmer's strongly (need I say STRONGLY) suggested a zero toe setting for the rear. Four point, Wife taking it in Monday at 0730 hours. She'll do the nice drive into town. At least the snow/sleet chances are gone (for now) for Monday!

I've taken mine to Precision Alignment before on Farmer's suggestion. They did a fine job. A little more expensive than others, but probably worth it. The only reason I haven't gone back there is because it wasn't convenient as it's across town for me. They were very busy last time I went there and I had to leave my car all day. I'm sure you already have, but you might call and get an appointment so your wife doesn't end up sitting around all day. Not the greatest neighborhood over there and she probably won't be walking to the mall while she waits.
Calling it a strong suggestion from Farmer is being kind. If you had disagreed with his strong suggestion he would have called you and idiot and probably been hung up on. Incredibly knowledgeable guy, but you have to be able to deal with the "strong suggestions" all the time. I say that with the best intentions. He has bailed me out on several occasions. Good luck, and let's hope the weather folks are wrong about their snow forecast for the weekend. My 911 is getting antsy sitting in the garage!

Yep, horrible leaving them in the garage! I HATE that my SC has turned into a garage queen! It must stop (HOPEFULLY) this year ;-)
I'll be sure to let her know the neighborhood situation. We have a 0730 appointment with them. I guess it helps to call Farmer asking for suggestions rather than making statements. It has been four years since I needed a Porsche Mechanic. Hate to further limit a small field!

There are other mechanics in this area if Farmer isn't your cup of tea. I know he has driven away quite a few due to his take it or leave it approach.
I still use him for some things because he is one of the best. I have met a few others in this area though that do very good work as well. Most of them don't advertise and get their business through word of mouth only. Be sure to drop me a line if there's anything Porsche/Audi/VW related you need in the Indy area and I'll do what I can to help you out!

I'm still trying to get my glass back in so I can get her out. By the end of April I'll have my dash done and the glass back in. I haven't driven it since about May last year when I started replacing the interior.

I didn't mean to sound too harsh, he is just a strong personality and very opinionated. I don't like to spread bad rumors in this public arena especially if it can harm someones business, so I hope nobody takes it that way.
Do any of you local Pelicans get together ever? I have done some of the PCA stuff, but it's mostly people with newer P-cars. I always end up being the youngest guy there with the oldest car. We should meet up at cars and coffee some weekend at 96th and Meridian.

I'm up for that once I get it back on the road. Indy isn't a very old Porsche friendly place. Very few of us.

As for C&C, I'm trying to go every weekend this year since I didn't make it once last year. Would be cool to see an air cooled contingent there. |

Let's do it! I would love to see more air cooled P-cars around. The last time I went to C&C there was a really beautiful original 356 speedster there. The owner was a really cool guy too, so I know we are out there.
equality72521, what's it going to take to get your car running? Groesbeck Hurricane, sorry to hijack your thread, I hope your alignment(s) are successful. What's the protocol to get people to come out? Start a new thread on here, or in the regional section? I dont' know if I could make it every weekend, but I'm sure I could go every couple of weeks. I have a neighbor who has a 911 so I'll get him to come too.

I need to finish recovering the dash and install it. I also need to get the rear glass and windshield in. I should be done no later than the end on April.

WE'SE A GO'IN OUT EN BAK!!!!!
Hijack away. I've never seen/heard of this coffe and cars thing nor do I know where the location is! I'm just out here growing birds, cows, horses, hay, and trees down by the river! Wonder if we should not start another thread and do an air-cooled meet sometime? I have fencing and major farm chores from 22 - 30 April. Mark, Sounds like your not far from back on the road! Superxman, What are you needing to get back out? My little '83 needs the front wheel bearings done. She has been a good sport, waiting all winter for my fat rear! UPDATE: Alignment done, car drives like new (per Wife). Very professional, they treated my wife well and she is happy. Bill came in lower than expected!!! Overall positive reference for these guys at Precision Alignment. AAAAAAAND: Farmer was nice to my wife. He had an opinion and wanted to make sure she remembered his advice. Don't mind a personality, hate it when people don't have one almost as much as when it is more overbearing than mine.
