Trans Rebuild Tool: US8050?
 

This kit, Driver Set US8050, seems to be used all over the factory manual for 915's. I have not been able to find any info on it, none are for sale anywhere, and it is not mentioned in any books outside of the manual... what is it? I see the picture and it looks like some kind of bearing driver kit? Any ideas on where to get one or what to buy these days that would be a good substitute?

US 8050 is a set of ‘press tools’ for installing seals and bearing races.

I have (had) a new set once.
All the pieces have gravitated into my drawer of press tools.
At some point I had a list that gave the crossover to SnapOn pieces.


If someone has a complete set, dimensions are worthwhile posting here.

Yeah I hit them (Baum) for all their printed catalogs a few days ago. I also looked at Sir Tools and nothing there. If I could read the manual page well enough I might be able to see what sizes there are, but its fuzzy... It looks as though some may be stepped as well? If I could get the dims I could make them... I borrowed a mini lathe... Its great having it around.

The factory Porsche bearing tool was P254. The manual text and captions mention US 8050, but the photos themselves show P254. If you have to remove or install bearing shells, heat the case up sufficiently, they'll just drop in. You can make the various discs of aluminum if you want, just measure the specific shells or bearings.

The T-handle tool, P366, is used to compress the midcase detent spring, while installing the rollpin.

I have a SnapOn (Blue Point) set, #A 1307, that came with five tapered aluminum pucks, all different sizes, and a threaded driver handle. Great set, doesn't fit everything (during my career I mostly used it for wheel bearing races), but it's really handy to have. It's probably 40-years old, but it might be worth a look in a SnapOn catalog.

Actually; Edit my above post, there are six pucks in my kit. They are sized (OD) as follows; 40mm, 45mm, 50mm, 58mm, 62mm and 65mm.
